Because We Care!
As a business member of the local community, Simmons
Mattress Gallery is actively involved in fundraising
activities for several important causes.
Leukemia Patient Support
Derek has very recently retired due to health challenges
and now acts as a consultant to the business, though he
still loves to get in all the commercials! He was diagnosed
with leukemia some 3 years ago and has already had one
round of chemotherapy and is facing another round soon.
As part of his therapy he turned to music and can be seen
around town jamming on his blues harmonica. In addition,
to put back into the community that has done so much for
him and the family, he is very involved in fundraising
for leukemia patients at the QE11 hospital. He has recorded
two CDs with the talented Charlie A'Court, raised $20,000
with the first and is well on the way to his goal of $50,000
for the second CD.
If you log onto haemoblues.com
you can read all about the project, listen to a free download
of a song written for all cancer patients "Haemo Blues"
and see how you can help support Derek by buying CD's.
It is a win win project, you make a donation and then
receive free CDs. They make great gifts!! Derek has covered
100% of the costs of the CDs so all funds from sales go
to help leukemia patients.
CDs can be purchased at both Simmons Mattress
Gallery stores, online at
haemoblues.com.
Blanket of Hope!
Every winter, Simmons Mattress Gallery asks the people
of Nova Scotia to drop off warm blankets and comforters,
old or new, to the two stores. Periodically over the cold
winter months they are donated to two homes that care
for people who are less fortunate than us.
Adsum House is a shelter for women and
children which does wonderful work with women in need.
Metro Turning Point is a shelter for
homeless men which offers them food, shelter and a place
to come in off the streets.
We at Simmons believe it important to give something back
to the community that has welcomed and supported us so
openly over the years. So please when winter approaches,
drop off some blankets or comforters to help those in
need.
